Indoor “Rally by the River” hosted for Marshall athletics in Parkersburg
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) -
The Marshall Alumni Association in the Mid-Ohio Valley hosted their annual Rally by the River on Thursday, and it was moved indoors at the Nemesis Shrine in Parkersburg due to the threat of inclement weather.
Dozens of families gathered to eat good food, drink fresh beverages, and get a chance to meet some of the faces of the Marshall Athletic Department.
Among those that were there was coach Chris Grassie, the soccer coach of the 2020 National Champion Thundering Herd, who just beat Indiana on May 18 down in Cary, NC.
He says it still has not sunk in that he, and the rest of his team, are national champs.
“I’m just wrapping my head around what it means,” Coach Grassie said. “It’s sort of a fantastic achievement. It hasn’t sunk in for me yet, I know it’s been a couple weeks now, but first team championship for the state, and first to conference USA in any sport and first to Marshall is, I guess words are just, I haven’t felt the impact other than the amazing fans and the amazing support that we’ve had from everybody. Just so happy that we could bring it home for everybody.”
First year football coach Charles Huff also made an appearance, as well as basketball coach Dan D’Antoni.
