West Virginia Writers Conference to take place in Ripley
RIPLEY, W.Va. (WTAP) - The 2021 West Virginia Writers Conference is scheduled to take place in Ripley June 11 - 13.
The conference is spearheaded by West Virginia Writers, Inc., a volunteer-run organization and writers’ resource. It will be held at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center and will feature a number of speakers and panels covering a wide range of writing-related topics.
Some of the discussion topics include self-publishing, poetry, writing conflict and suspense, up and coming West Virginia writers, and much more. The full schedule of events is available online here. The organization notes that all plans are subject to change based on developments with COVID-19.
“The conference is one of our oldest traditions, it’s something we always look forward to, and it’s always good to get everyone together,” said Brad Mills, president of West Virginia Writers, Inc. “Writing is kind of an isolated activity and, when we do it, we feel like we’re the only person on the Earth. So it’s good to reach out and have that community and that sense of other people going through what we’re going through,” he added.
The winners of the organization’s annual writing contest will be announced during the conference, on June 12.
The organization offers a scholarship to underrepresented writers, including writers of color and LGBTQIA+ writers, and those with disabilities, which will cover registration fees, meals, and room charges.
Registration for the conference can be done online here.
