PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - One of numerous events that didn’t take place in 2020 is back for 2021.

The Wood County Solid Waste Authority will hold its tire and paint disposal event Saturday, June 12 at the Ericson All-Sports Facility.

West Virginia residents can dispose of old tires and unneeded paint between 9 A.M. and 2 P.M. Identification will be required to prove state residency.

In the 25 years it’s been held, thousands of people have come each year to drop off recyclable goods.

”Typically, it’s about 2,000-3,000 cars, and the whole goal is just to clean up Wood County and clean up West Virginia the best that we can,” says Solid Waste Authority Director Andy Hartleben. “So the more that we can take in, there are potentially less tires over the hillside or in someone’s front yard. It’s just a chance to clean up the county a little bit.”

Tires have to be removed from rims before they’re brought to the event.

The solid waste authority is also accepting metal items such as propane tanks.

Latex and spray paints are accepted.
