Gary Lee Parsons, 78, of Waverly passed away November 13, 2021, at his residence.

He was born on November 28, 1942, in Charleston, WV the son of the late Howard Otho and Ada Ellen Randolph Parsons.

Gary enjoyed camping, especially at Holly River, but the most important things in his life were his faith, his family, and his friends.  He loved spoiling his special pets, Daisy, Jadame’, Josie and Bella. Gary was a very active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church since 1993.  He devoted a lot of his time to his church and church family, serving on the Property Team and on various boards and ministries with the church. He was an active member of the Air Force National Guard from 1962-1968.  Gary retired from DuPont Washington Works with over thirty-five years of service working in security and the lab.  He was active with the Fire Brigade at the plant and the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Gary is survived by his wife Linda M. Smith Parsons, son Steven M. Parsons (Jessica), daughters Krista D. Clegg, Konni Hewitt (James), son-in-law Michael Woodyard, grandchildren Alexander Clegg, Aric Clegg, Tyler J. Clegg (Courtney), Philadelphia Hewitt (Wes Florence), Carly Gilbert, Kylie Kellison, Morgan Parsons, Lauren Parsons, Morgan Roberson, sister Carolyn Sue Balis (John), brother Howard Keith Parsons (Sharon), sister-in-law Bonnie Parsons and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Susette Woodyard, son Brian S. Clegg, and brother James Larry Parsons.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 pm on Saturday and for one hour prior to the service on Sunday.

The celebration of life service will be 4 pm Sunday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastors Michael Rubin and Chuck Ferrell officiating.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church Property Team or Housecalls Hospice.
