Final designs for new Lubeck Elementary under review
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Planning for the new Lubeck Elementary School in Wood County is nearing completion, with bidding for the project and the start of construction expected by early spring.
Wood County Schools Assistant Superintendent of Operations Kaleb Lawrence said they received the finalized plans for the school from the McKinley architecture firm on Monday. Those plans have also been submitted to the School Building Authority and The West Virginia Department of Education, both of which have a 10 day deadline to review the designs.
Following state approval and final review of the plans by school officials, Lawrence said they intend to make the bid documents for the project available by the end of January and accept bids for the project by early March.
While the process of designing the school and reviewing the plans has been lengthy, Lawrence said it’s for the best because it ensures the school fully meets the wants and needs of the district after construction.
“It’s been a lot of months planning this,” Lawrence said. “You don’t want to build something and say, ‘Well, we didn’t like that color.’ This is, every spec and detail in these 100% drawings, once we approve them, that is the school that’s getting built. So, we have a little time to review them, the state’s also reviewing them and the SBA, so this is just a, hey, we’re really close. At this point, make sure every i is dotted and t is crossed.”
Lawrence said construction will start soon after a bid is accepted and will last about two years.
