Man accused of shooting pregnant dog twice and leaving her to die
WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) - A man has been charged in a shooting that injured a small dog in Wilson County nearly two months ago.
According to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee, animal control responded to a call on Sept. 18 regarding a dog that appeared to be injured.
Officers located the small black dog suffering from a severely injured front right leg.
The animal was taken to a local veterinarian, where X-rays revealed bullet fragments inside the leg.
Further examination determined the dog had been shot twice, once grazing the spine and another striking the front right leg at the elbow, shattering the bone.
The 2-year-old cocker spaniel–poodle mix was also reportedly found to be pregnant.
Following a joint investigation between Wilson County Animal Control, detectives said they were able to identify the suspected shooter as 23-year-old Cory Evans.
Investigators obtained an indictment and Evans was taken into custody on charges of one count of aggravated animal cruelty.
The animal care team said the dog is continuing its recovery, but they had to amputate the leg due to the severity of its injuries.
