Katelyn Smith

Katelyn joined the WTAP team in July of 2021 as a news and sports multimedia journalist.

Katelyn grew up in Lexington, South Carolina. She is a recent graduate from the University of

South Carolina with a B.A. in broadcast journalism and a minor in sports and entertainment

management.

During her time at UofSC she worked as a sportswriter for the Daily Gameock, sports reporter

for the Irmo-Chapin Life Magazine, anchor and host for the LockerRoom App that produces

weekly talk shows surrounding sports, and founder and co-host of “EmpowHER the Game” a

podcast that empowers women in sports. In her final semester, she produced and reported for the

UofSC’s daily news show where she not only gained newsroom experience but gained her best

friends.

Katelyn found her passion for sports after following her father’s high school football, basketball,

softball, and baseball coaching career since she could walk.

On the job or off the job, you can find her at a football game, but she loves spending time with

her goldendoodle, family and friends.
