12 years later and Judith Petty's family is still seeking justice

PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - Judith Petty's remains were found 12 years ago and the cause of her death remains unsolved.

Petty’s remains were found burned back in 2008, a senseless death that still haunts her family.

On the day she went missing, they say she went to the library to return some books and never returned. They went looking for her and her remains were later found on the family farm. Investigators later determined she was dead before the fire.

Now, 12 years later, her family is still searching for answers.

"It's heart wrenching to go this many years and not have justice for someone that wrongfully took her life and destroyed her happiness and our happiness," said Wendy Petty, sister.

As the years have slipped away, they family says they’ve received tips, but nothing more. Wendy says, some of those tips were followed up on by the police.

"Not only her cause but the other cases here in Wood County of people who have been murdered and no one has to pay for it.," said Joan Petty, mother.

Joan says, it gets harder each year and the family just asks for the community’s help to get justice for Judy.
