2018 Fire Fighter of the Year awarded at Wood County Fireman’s Association meeting

LUBECK W.Va, (WTAP)- Chief Bernard Cothern received the Sons of the American Revolution, Capt James Neal Chapter’s 2018 Fire Fighter of the Year award at the Wood County Fireman’s Association meeting on Monday evening.

Chief Cothern spent more than 50 years as a volunteer fire fighter and he is a charter member of the agency now known as the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department. He says that he is proud of the community he has watched grow.

“Participating with the other young men in the fire department goes a long way in establishing the community. We got the fire department established, the school went in across the road, three or four subdivisions went in. I’ve seen the Mineral Wells area grow over 50 years,” says Chief Cothern.

Chief Cothern is still an active member of the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department.
