26th annual Walk Your Paws event raises thousands for humane society

PARKERSBURG, W.Va (WTAP)- City Park looked more like a dog park Saturday afternoon because of an annual fundraising event.

The 26th annual Walk Your Paws fundraiser for the Parkersburg Humane Society was held at Parkersburg City Park.

This is the society’s biggest fundraiser of the year. More than 10 vendors and dozens of dog owners helped support the cause.

While the group anticipates raising nearly $25,000 from the event, it is also a way to showcase some animals looking for a home.

“We have a lot of animals out here, we’ll hopefully get some adopted. Our shelter is really full right now with both dogs and cats. So if you want to come down, take a look at the animals, you may want to make somebody home and make them part of your family,” says, Katie Kelly the executive director and shelter manager for the Parkersburg Humane Society.

WTAP’s own Thomas Battle also helped out the cause by spending half an hour in the dunk tank.
