Marietta cheerleaders holding holiday drive for active military

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Students are hoping to spread some holiday cheer to military members overseas.

The Marietta Tiger cheerleaders are collecting supplies for service members who can't be home for the holidays.

Items needed include beef jerky, rice krispie treats, dried fruit, single serve: kool aid, hot chocolate, instant coffee, sugar packets, powdered creamer, mints, candy, gum, protein bars, chap stick, pocket tissues, baby wipes, dental floss, plain brown hair ties, feminine products, q-tips, playing cards, cross-word puzzles, word searches, nerf balls, and mailing supplies.

Cheerleaders say it's important to show our active military that they're not alone during this special time of the year.

"We're just trying to give back to the community and make sure our military service men and women have a great holiday," senior Becca Kruse said.

"It's really important for us to give back to them," senior Carlie Hamilton said, "and I think that them having the support of not only their family but those that they may not even know will mean a lot to them."

The drive runs until December 3. Drop-off locations include Marietta High School, Marietta Middle School, Washington County Career Center, Marietta City Hall, First Baptist Church and American Flags and Poles.
