Fire damages vacant house on Latrobe Street in Parkersburg
The Parkersburg Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at 3:33 Saturday morning.
The house at 1041 Latrobe Street was vacant and fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. Firefighters began on the first floor of the building and were able to extinguish most of the fire quickly, and crews remained at the scene for several hours to knock down hot spots.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Neighbors say that they have seen multiple people entering and leaving the vacant home regularly and witnesses say they saw at least one person leave the building before the fire began. Firefighters say that there were multiple points inside the structure where they believe fires started, leading Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews to believe that the fire may have been set intentionally.
