AAA trying to deter vehicle theft

VIENNA, W.Va. (WTAP) - AAA is trying to prevent drivers in the Mid-Ohio Valley from falling victim to auto theft.

They had a free VIN etching event Wednesday in Vienna.

People came in to have their VIN numbers etched onto the windows of their cars.

Triple A officials say replacing windows are expensive, which could deter thieves from stealing your car.

There are some other ways to prevent theft.

“Don’t leave valuables in your car store all of your electronic equipment away, keep your doors locked, don’t leave purses and wallets or things like that, this is a dangerous time of the year to with people on vacation getting excited and people go the beach and they leave things in their car just put everything away store it away so a thief can’t be enticed to break into your vehicle,” said J.J. Miller, a AAA safety advisor.

AAA reports every 30 seconds, a vehicle is stolen in the United States.
