Accident knocks out power to Marietta residents

MARIETTA, Oh.-(WTAP) A vehicle accident early Saturday morning resulted in a loss of power to residents on Marietta's west side.

Mayor Josh Schlicher tells us a vehicle struck a power pole early Saturday morning in the area of Ohio routes 7 and 550 near the city limits.

The roads were closed in that area while the accident scene was cleared. Mayor Schlicher says American Electric Power restored service to the area around 5 A.M., although power crews were still at the scene as late as 10;30 A.M.

The Washington County Sheriff's office also tells us its internet service was down for a short time.

We reached out to AEP for comment, but have not heard back from them.
