PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) The American Red Cross and American Cancer Society have teamed up to present the "Give blood to give time" campaign
The campaign, which runs through February 29th, is the first time that these two organizations have partnered nationally.
Even after the campaign ends, the need for blood will not.
"1/3 people according to the American Cancer Society will get cancer in their lifetime, and for us every minute, five units of lifesaving blood is given to a cancer patient," said Sharon Kesselring, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Northwest, West Virginia.
"Cancer patients use 25% of the blood supply that is banked, said Carmen Hathaway, Community Development Director, American Cancer Society. "So it is very important that we encourage our local community to please give blood."
