PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The American Red Cross celebrated the success of the Sound the Alarm campaign during a reception Wednesday night.
The Red Cross had a lot of help with its smoke alarm installation blitz this spring. Its goal was to install 700 smoke alarms. With the help of all its partners, the Red Cross was able to install over a thousand. Different fire departments, corporate sponsors, and city leaders contributed to the effort.
That means hundreds of families are protected.
"During a month that sees fire prevention times, and all the home fire safety education that goes on, including what goes on when we install the smoke alarms, we thought this was a really appropriate time to do this," said Sharon Kesselring, the executive director of the Northwest West Virginia chapter of the American Red Cross.
This is the fifth year for the Sound the Alarm campaign.
