PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - UPDATE: 02/15/19
The American Red Cross faces a blood emergency. It's now calling for people to donate blood, which could potentially save lives. And it looks like people here in the Mid-Ohio Valley are already stepping up to help.
Bob Langkamer, a Vienna resident, has donated more than 100 pints of blood since the 1970s.
“I try to give as frequently as I can,” he said.
Langkamer was one of many who came out to the Mid-Ohio Valley Medical Group in Vienna Friday for a blood drive.
“I just encourage people that that have the time and aren’t afraid of the process because there is no reason to be afraid to get and donate whenever they can,” he said.
The drive is one of several happening in the area in the coming weeks.
“It’s an awesome feeling to give blood,” said Brenda Bradley, who helped coordinate Friday’s drive. She even donated herself.
“You can watch the news and you could see natural disasters from coast to coast in the United States and if there’s a fire in California those people can not give blood and we here can give blood you know so it’s to help out our fellow man and provide blood, blood is needed all the time,” she said.
