Athens community comes together for Joe Burrow watch party
Members of Christ Community Wesleyan Church and the Athens community came out to watch the big game, LSU vs. Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff Semifinal.
This is the first tailgate from the church since Joe Burrow won the Heisman trophy and the community was excited about his speech highlighting major problems in the Athens community and bringing awareness.
"I thought it was great because what he spoke hit home with us because again, those of us from here, we have lived that and experienced it. I'm fortunate that I never went hungry but again I had friends that did," said Eric Lucas, fan.
Community members say they are looking forward to seeing Joe Burrow go all the way and win the national championship.
The community appreciates him bringing awareness to the hunger problem in the Athens community which has now brought in over $400,000 in donations to the Athens County Food Pantry.
