PARKERSBURG, W. Va. The Wood County Sheriff's Office will be taking extra safety precautions.

The Sheriff's office recommends that on your morning commute you take an extra moment to pay attention to school zones and bus stops because kids are out and may not be paying attention.

Chief Deputy Robert Sims says that child safety is most important so please follow traffic rules.

"When school starts we always make an extra effort to have extra officers out we have them come out a little bit early before their shift. Go to the school zones, patrol the school zones, try to keep an eye out on the buses," said Chief Deputy Sims.

There are high penalties for not abiding by the rules in school zones.
