Bats prompt Roane County elementary school to close again Tuesday

SPENCER, W.Va. (AP) - An elementary school in Roane County will be closed for a second straight day on Tuesday while school officials deal with bats found inside the building.

Superintendent Richard D. Duncan said a contractor was at the school on Monday to assess the situation and the decision was made to cancel classes on Tuesday. Multiple bats were found in the building over three days last week.

Duncan said it's unclear how long it might take to remove the bats, and school officials have not said when classes will resume. He said the school must first clean the building and take steps to keep the bats out.
