Belpre police crusier involved in accident

BELPRE, Ohio (WTAP) - Update: 11/4/2019 2:20 P.M.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the two drivers Jessica Parsons, 36 of Belleville, and Belpre Police Officer Gunnar Smith, 23, were taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital's Belpre campus with minor injuries.

Parsons, driving a Mitsubishi Outlander, was stopped on Washington Boulevard, west of Lee Street, to make a left turn into a private drive, when her car was struck from behind by the police cruiser.

Officer Smith was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance.


A Belpre police cruiser was involved in a two-vehicle accident Monday morning on Washington Boulevard.

An investigation is still under way, but an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper told us the cruiser and a private vehicle were both headed westbound when the cruiser struck the back of the vehicle.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the hospital to be checked out, but their injuries are believed to be minor.

The accident happened around eight o'clock Monday morning.
