It’s a sign the season is changing.

Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park opened back up for the summer this week.

The park offers everything from a mansion tour to horse drawn carriage rides.

Park officials and visitors say the activities aren’t the only thing that make the park special.

“I think the best part is just being able to interact with the guests and being able to see how well they’re enjoying their time here, just seeing people having a good time and having smiles on their faces is really the best part for me,” said Miles Evenson, the superintendent of the park.

“I think it’s a gem because we are an island we do have historical significance with the Blennerhassett story and some of the Aaron Burr conspiracy and I think it’s just a good place for people to enjoy a nice boat ride come have a picnic on the island learn some history I think it’s just a nice place for people to be able to come enjoy the outdoors and the Mid-Ohio Valley in general.”

“A lot of important people came here and visited and stayed and had a lot of influence on our country that was very interesting to find out,” said Carol Bartley, a visitor from Indiana.

The park is open Tuesday through Sunday until Labor Day weekend. Then the days will change to Thursday through Sunday.

After being closed for the winter months a local park will be opening for visitors once again.
Blennerhassett Island State Park will be reopening to the public on Wednesday, May 1st.
To reach the island you must take the Island Belle Sternwheeler which leaves from Point Park.
The island will be open every day except for Mondays.
Sternwheeler rides to the island are $10 adult and $8 for children ages 3-12.
