Boys and Girls Club tests out new rink

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg was among the first to skate on the brand new ice rink in City Park.

A brief session was held on Thursday, to prepare for the grand official opening of the rink on Friday.

The kids were excited to strap on their skates, and tried their hardest not to fall and hurt themselves.

While there may be some sore bodies later on today, the kids still had a great time, and will hopefully express their excitement to other members of the community.

"This is not an opportunity that they have had before in our community," said Ben Shuman, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club in Parkersburg. "I think you can see the reaction is overwhelmingly positive. We might have a couple sore knees here and there, but I think we've got a lot of really happy kids right now."

The official opening of the rink is Friday, January 17 at 4:00 p.m. Admission is $2 per person to enter, and $4 per hour to rent a pair of skates.
