MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - A local college grad goes from the big stage to the small screen and Marietta couldn't be more proud.

Cleveland native Nick Gehlfuss received his B.F.A. in Theatre from Marietta College.

After attending grad school, he moved to New York, performing in several stage productions before transitioning to the screen.

He's made several appearances in hit shows like Rizzoli and Isles, Army Wives, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He began playing the role of Dr. Will Halstead on Chicago PD, a role continued on Chicago Fire, and now on Chicago Med.

He credits Marietta College for helping him get serious about acting.

"When I was at Marietta, my appreciation for acting, that's when it became very serious. It was fun before I went to Marietta. Then when I was learning there, my respect for it had sort of settled in there. The type of one-on-one that you get at a small school was really key for me, so I enjoyed it," Gelhfuss said.

You can catch Nick and the rest of the Chicago Med crew Tuesdays at 9:00PM on WTAP.
