MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - The Washington County Health Department continues to gather public opinion on its Tobacco 21 Initiative.
The department hosted two community forums Thursday at the department's office and at the Washington County Library in Marietta.
Tobacco 21 is an initiative to raise the minimum legal age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21.
Health officials say most responses for its ongoing survey have been in support of the move.
"We have about 360 respondents and just over 70 percent of those are in favor of this ordinance," Director of Population Health Court Witschey said, "and that's great because what issue out there today gets seven out 10 people's approval."
Health officials say they hope to bring their findings to Marietta City Council before the end of the year.
