UPDATE: One person dies in Dutch Ridge Road fire

WOOD COUNTY, W.Va. (WTAP) - UPDATE: 6:25 PM

One person is confirmed dead after a fire at the Dutch Hills Terrace Apartments on Dutch Ridge Road in Wood County.

Mutliple apartments had smoke damage. The apartment in which the person died is a bottom floor apartment.

The American Red Cross is assisting residents.

The Wood County Sheriff's office has also responded to the scene.

ORIGINAL STORY:
Emergency crews responded to the scene of a fire on Dutch Ridge Road in Wood County around 4:50 p.m.

Dispatchers say the Dutch Ridge Apartments fire was knocked down by 5:24, though crews are still on the scene. The blaze was contained to mostly one apartment.

The East Wood Volunteer Fire Department was the primary respondent and they were backed up by the Mineral Wells Volunteer and Deerwalk Volunteer Fire Departments. St. Joseph’s ambulance service also responded to the scene.

The Wood County Fire Investigation team and the West Virginia State Fire Marshall’s office are on the scene to investigate.
The cause of the fire has not been identified at this time.
