Cystic fibrosis patient, Wyatt Smith, dies at 23

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Local cystic fibrosis patient, Wyatt Smith, passed away over the weekend. He died at his home Saturday, at age 23. He was a Parkersburg South graduate and a huge fan of West Virginia University sports.

Wyatt served as an advocate to spread awareness about cystic fibrosis, and was an avid speaker for foundations such as Make-A-Wish and the Children's Miracle Network.

Wyatt was also proudly appointed an honorary SWAT team member for the Pittsburgh Police Department. This after an officer wounded in the attack at a Pittsburgh synagogue, friended Wyatt as they were both being treated at UPMC Presbyterian in December of 2018.

Visitation for Wyatt will be Tuesday, March 12th from 3-8 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, March 13th at 1 p.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Per Wyatt’s wishes, the family asks everyone to sport their best West Virginia attire to the services.
