CROSS LANES, W.Va. (AP) - Deputies have been cleared of any wrongdoing in a shootout in Kanawha County that killed a man.

News outlets report the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office released surveillance video of the shooting Thursday.

Authorities say 49-year-old Michael Davis shot at deputies on New Year's Eve in Cross Lanes. Deputies returned fire in the residential neighborhood.

Davis was wounded and later died. The sheriff says officials are still waiting on records to determine whether Davis had drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of the shooting.

He also says Davis had faced charges before in West Virginia and Florida.
