UPDATE: SUV involved in I-77 chase found in Wood County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio (WTAP) - UPDATE: 02/25/2020 12:45 P.M.

An SUV involved in a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 77 Monday afternoon has been located, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Office.

The white Chevrolet Suburban was found abandoned about 8 p.m. off Rising Sun Road in Wood County, the sheriff's office said.

It was towed to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the pursuit that began when deputies tried to stop the vehicle for speeding as it was traveling south on I-77.

There is no further information on the driver and their whereabouts.

A driver got away from authorities Monday afternoon after they tried to pull over his vehicle for speeding on Interstate 77 in Washington County, authorities said.

According to Sheriff Larry Mincks, deputies tried unsuccessfully to stop a white Chevrolet Suburban that was headed south on I-77.

They pursued the vehicle into West Virginia, where Mincks said the vehicle got off the interstate at the Emerson Avenue exit.

Wood County sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit and search for the vehicle in an area along Ashby Ridge Road and Old St. Marys Pike, but the search came up empty.

Authorities have not released additional information about the vehicle or the suspect.
