Dry weather conditions affecting local farmers

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Stacy Family Farm is a specialty farm that harvests many berries including strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

Stacy Family Farm says, the field corn has matured and reached its life cycle, but the dry heat is causing it to dry faster than expected.

Bill Stacy is the owner and partner of Stacy Family Farm.

Stacy says, you have to have the irrigation ready for this type of weather and that he pumps water early to make sure to keep the plants cooled down.

"We've been raising strawberries for about 25 years and every once in a while you get one of these dreaded years where you're trying to plant small strawberry plants in not over 90 degree weather. So, we were chasing right behind the planter and tractor with irrigation," said Stacy.

Stacy adds, just like someone playing sports you have to stay hydrated and that's what they do with their plants.

Stacy Family Farm is preparing for many fall activities including corn mazes and pumpkin patches.
