FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Nearly 550 employees could be affected by Fairmont Regional Medical Center's plane to downsize, the Marion County Chamber of Commerce president said.

The hospital handed out 60-day WARN notices on Tuesday, alerting employees that it plans to start downsizing and closing departments.

Chamber President Tina Shaw said the hospital's chief executive officer notified her about the WARN notices.

Shaw said the reductions will be a 60-day process.

The hospital is owned by Alecto. The company had two other hospitals in the region -- Wheeling and East Ohio Regional – both of which have closed.

The next closest hospital is United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, which is operated by WVU Medicine.
