PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Parkersburg Fire Department is building a new Fire Station 4.
The old Fire Station 4 sat next to a gas station, however the city purchased and demolished the gas station and is building a larger Station 4.
Fire Chief Jason Matthews says the project is expected to be done at the end of this July.
The station has footers in place, and electricians are working on installing conduits.
The old Fire Station 4 was built in 1931 and Matthews says they’re building for the future.
“You know, the trucks now are a lot bigger than they were then, so we’re going with bigger garage doors. Just updating for the future. It’s going to be a good thing for the city and the fire department,”
Not only are the doors going to be larger, but they’ll fold horizontally.
Matthews says this station will also have rear doors so engines can pull through instead of backing in.
Residents living near the construction say they’re happy to see a new fire station coming up.
“I think it makes us all feel a lot safer, plus I know it’s a little break on the homeowner’s insurance,” said Sondra Mays, a nearby Parkersburg resident.
