Firefighters respond to house fire on 40th Street in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - No injuries were reported after firefighters were called to a house fire on 40th Street in Parkersburg Wednesday morning.

A Wood County 911 dispatch supervisor said firefighters were called to 1072 40th St., just before 9 a.m.

Fire Chief Jason Matthews said the fire was in the basement of the home. Crews remained at the home for more than an hour.

Matthews said the American Red Cross was called to provide assistance to the occupant of the home, who got out safely.

He said a cat was also rescued from the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
