Firefighters say pets killed in Athens, Ohio house fire

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WTAP) - Firefighters say four family pets perished as a result of a house fire Wednesday afternoon in Athens, Ohio.

At 12:25 p.m., a passerby reported smoke coming from a structure on North Lancaster Street

A working structure fire was discovered when firefighters got there. The fire was brought under control at 3:00 p.m. The investigation wrapped up around 5:00 p.m.

The three occupants were not home at the time of the fire. Four family pets perished as a result of the fire. The estimated loss is $190,000 for the home and its contents.

The origin of the fire was determined to be in the living room area. It appears to be electrical in nature.
