PARKERSBURG, W.Va.-(WTAP) A group of Parkersburg firefighters are going to court with the city over holiday pay.
The suit filed in Wood County Circuit Court on behalf of Local 91 of the International Association of Firefighters claims the city failed to properly compensate 55 firefighters.
It says the city's actions are in violation of state law, and calls for a special commissioner to be appointed to calculate the damages for each firefighter.
Parkersburg Mayor Tom Joyce and city Finance Director Eric Jiles are being summoned to provide depositions in the case May 20.
In a statement accompanying the lawsuit, Teresa Toriseva, the attorney representing the firefighters association, says the holiday pay issue is also a problem with other West Virginia cities.
Contacted Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Joyce said he had not been served with the lawsuit and could not comment.
