First Mid-Ohio Valley baby of 2019 is born

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - It only took a few hours of 2019 before the first baby in the Mid-Ohio Valley was born.

"I am introducing the new year baby here at Marietta Memorial Hospital. His name is Luke Gabriel" newborn baby's father, Segundino Macatol, says proudly.

Baby Macatol was born at 4:51 Tuesday morning, weighing in at six pounds.

He was the first baby born in the Mid-Ohio Valley in 2019, and is also the first member in his family to be a U.S. citizen.

Baby Luke's parents and two siblings are from the Philippines, in the U.S. on a work visa.

His father says he is in the process of getting a green card. He says he brought his family to the U.S. for a better life and have since made the Mid-Ohio Valley home.

"Actually we didn't really know what was going on, I thought there were also other babies to be delivered but the nurse just told us that he was the New Year baby so we're really, I think we're blessed." Macatol says.

Baby Luke was scheduled to be born on January 16th, but came as a surprise early Tuesday morning. He adds, "We're not really prepared because we were planning maybe first week of January to prepare everything. But good thing we already have all the stuff for the baby. But the house, it's not ready we still have to set up the crib."

Both mom and baby are healthy. They are hoping to take him home Wednesday.
