NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WTAP) - A former City of Nelsonville employee was indicted today for three felonies after being accused of taking money, in excess of $40,000 from the city, according to the Athens County Prosecutor's Office
Stephanie Wilson, 46, of Stewart, Ohio is a former Deputy Auditor for the City of Nelsonville and was responsible for payroll since 2012.
The charges were brought upon Wilson after newly elected City Auditor Taylor Sappington found inconsistencies in the payroll and direct deposit reports.
The charges filed by the Athens County Prosecutor's Office are Tampering with Evidence, a felony of the fourth degree; Forgery, a felony of the fourth degree; and Telecommunications Fraud, a felony of the third degree.
On February 5th, investigators carried out a search warrant on Wilson's office.
Prosecuting Attorney Keller Blackburn says Wilson has been cooperative thus far and will appear for arraignment at a later date.
