CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - UPDATE: 03/02/19

A former school superintendent in West Virginia has been sentenced to three and a half years in federal prison on a corruption conviction.

The U.S. attorney's office in Charleston said Phyllis Doty had been found guilty in August of wire fraud, theft from a program receiving federal funds, mail fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Prosecutors say Doty stole more than $12,000 in electronic devices purchased by the Logan County Board of Education and either sold them or gave them to family members as gifts. Duty then used the money to decorate and supply her son's wedding.

Prosecutors said Friday that Doty attempted to influence teachers with the claim that she had permission to take iPods purchased by the board.

Doty also must pay back more than $25,000.
