Grand jury indicts Athens County man on child-porn charges

ATHENS, Ohio (WTAP) - An Athens County grand jury has indicted a Guysville man on multiple charges as part of an ongoing child-pornography investigation.

Joshua Copeland, 37, was indicted Thursday on seven counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, three counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor and one count of having weapons while under disability. All of the charges are felonies.

Prosecuting Attorney Keller Blackburn’s office said Copeland, who is currently in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail, was apprehended after authorities obtained information from another man’s phone records and from a search of Copeland’s residence.

In a news release, Blackburn said his office determined that Copeland had been in communication with Richard L. Adams, 74, who is also facing child-pornography charges related to photos and videos that authorities found on electronic equipment seized from his home on July 2.

Adams, who has two prior convictions on sex charges, has already pleaded not guilty to more than three dozen felony child-pornography counts and is in the SEORJ on a $1 million bond.

Copeland is scheduled to be arraigned on July 31 in Athens County Common Pleas Court.
