Great Bowls of Fire Chili Cook-off held in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG W.Va, (WTAP)- The Great Bowls of Fire Chili cook-off had it’s annual competition in Downtown Parkersburg.

Teams from around the area entered chili in various categories for the top prize that is chosen by the public. Second place is awarded by the judges top pick.

While the competition had numerous businesses competing, not all chili entries can be bought in a restaurant.

“Most of them are businesses and then there’s a couple ones that want to go out and just see if they’ve got the best recipe. It’s just a great event. It’s cooler out and you’ve got that hot chili and we’ve got free drinks here,” says Marvin Edwards, the Point Park Markertplace owner.

“It gets you out and you’re able to talk to people. You get some validation with your food. There’s a lot of people that love cooking at home, they have a passion for cooking at home. This gets you out of the house and you get to share that passion with everybody,” explains Shawn McColligan of S&T BBQ.

This year, the competition had 10 different groups competing and 12 different chili entries. It lasted from 2 to 5pm.
