Group brings together mayors, leaders of Appalachian Ohio

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Marietta Mayor Joe Matthews welcomed fellow mayors from around the region for monthly meeting that's been going strong for over 20 years.

The Mayors Partnership for Progress includes mayors and city managers from 15 counties and over 60 communities in Appalachian Ohio.

Organizers say the group provides a platform for different communities to share resources and knowledge in facing common issues.

"It was formed for mayors who were brand new and newly-elected to mentor," current group president and Mayor of Amesville Gary Goosman said, "and get new ideas for mayors who had been around the block basically."

"We talk about the challenges we have, solutions, things we've done that have worked, things we've done that didn't work, so you know we share that kind of information."

Mayor Matthews helped start the group back in 1995.
