MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - UPDATE: 2/8/2020 06:00 P.M.
Hall Financial Advisors first "Teacher's Closet" is a success.
Organizers say teachers were lined up before they even opened hoping to rack up on school supplies.
"It was just really a nice gesture that they did for everyone because school supplies can just be so expensive and sometimes kids just can't afford them," said Stephanie Marvin, Harmar Elementary, 2nd and 5th grade intervention specialist. "So they purchase them at the beginning of the year and by now we run out of half of time and a lot of the times we end up spending our own money on it."
Hall Financial Advisors were able to serve nearly 100 educators.
Hall Financial Advisors are holding a "Teacher's Closet" Event Saturday morning, where they will be giving out school supplies to teachers from Wood and Washington Counties.
The firm established a giving foundation last year, and decided that this year they would help the community by helping out teachers and students with $12,000 worth of supplies.
The giveaway has everything from books and pencils, to Lysol wipes and tissues.
Kim Hall did most of the legwork on this project, putting countless hours in to make sure it was a success.
Hall also purchased socks, gloves, and non-perishable food items after hearing that children would come to school without clothing to keep them warm and teachers feared they may not be eating enough at home.
"That was the biggest thing that struck home for me. These kids may be going hungry," she said.
Teachers who put in an RSVP for the giveaway, will have personalized boxes waiting for them when they arrive, with items tailored to their needs and the subjects they teach.
The Advisors expect a great turnout and hope to give away everything they have purchased.
The giveaway starts at 10 a.m. at 416 Hart Street in Marietta.
