PARKERSBURG, W. Va. Healthy Bodies, Healthy spirits is a statewide network of churches who try to incorporate health ministry into their communities.
Local members of the community came out to the Rock Parkersburg church for a lesson in making healthy food flavorful and sweet treats.
Chef Jason Oesterreicher is an executive chef and CEO of Lost Art of Culinary. He emphasized the importance on making healthy food taste good and the five components that he uses to make sure his food is tasty: sweet, spice, sour, savory, and smoke.
Oesterreicher says, when you combine all of these flavors, it satisfies the mind.
Organizers stressed the importance on how the church and health go hand in hand.
"Like where are our communities needs...well health, opioid epidemic, those are obvious needs that we have and the church can address those and through lots of programs it does, but one of the primary ways we can do it is by having health ministries that are in our congregations," said Sowards, coordinator, Healthy Bodies,Healthy Spirits.
