Hundreds of kids get creative at annual Art-O-Rama

PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - Kids channeled their curiosity and creativity at one of the biggest children's arts event of the year.

The Parkersburg Art Center held its annual Art-Oh-Rama event Saturday.

It featured seven make and take craft activities, painting, puzzle making, science fun from Mountwood Park and some local musical performances.

Organizers say it's important to get kids involved in creative activities from an early age.

"I think we need to educate the whole child," said Jessie Siefert, managing director for Parkersburg Art Center. "We need to not raise robots, but interesting and creative people. These kids are our future and don't you want an interesting and creative future."

"Hopefully they take away a love of art. They've been exposed to dance, drama, music as well as the visual arts, so hopefully they want to expand on that."

This was the 11th year for the event, which replaced a former annual May Day. Organizers say the event has really grown the last two years with the introduction of community partners.
