UPDATE: 4 people taken to hospital after 5-vehicle crash on Route 47

WOOD COUNTY, W.Va. (WTAP) - UPDATE 10/8/2019 7:19 P.M.

Deputies say four people were taken to the hospital after this crash. The crash was a chain reaction.

At least two people were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries after a multi-car crash on Route 47, authorities said.

The crash about 3:15 p.m. blocked the westbound lane of the highway between Dutch Ridge Road and the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church for more than an hour.

Five vehicles were involved in what appeared to be a chain-reaction crash.

No information on the cause of the crash or on the conditions of those taken to the hospital was immediately available from authorities.

The East Wood Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash, along with units from the Camden Clark and St. Joseph's ambulance services.

The Wood County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash.
