VIENNA, W.Va.-(WTAP) A local war hero makes a public appearance in Vienna for a book signing.
Wirt County native and former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch made an appearance Monday night at Serenity Coffee House in Vienna.
She signed copies of her 2003 book, "I Am A Soldier".
April 1 marked 16 years since she was released after spending several days in captivity during the early weeks of the Iraq War.
"The main thing is perseverance, no matter what you are going through," Lynch told us. "Keep your head up and keep striving to reach those goals. And always remember and support our troops until they do come home."
While she still does physical therapy for her injuries during her ordeal, Lynch works as a substitute teacher.
She also has some projects she's working on, but hasn't finalized yet.
