Law enforcement departments come together overnight to get crime off the streets

PARKERSBURG, W. Va. (WTAP) - Officers from the Parkersburg Police Department and the Wood County Sheriff's Office worked together to target high crime areas with suspicious activity.

The officers were looking for drug activity, traffic violations, and anyone with outstanding warrants. The main areas of focus were Lynn Street and Latrobe Street.

The officers called it a "street sweep."

"The collaboration between the two agencies has always been pretty strong and combining our efforts together seemed to be more fruitful," said Chief Joe Martin of the Parkersburg Police Department.

"We got a lot of positive feedback. People were actually ecstatic that we were in the area," said Sheriff Stephens of Wood County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say it was a successful effort in keeping in streets safe and the people who live in the areas of the sweeps were appreciative of the departments efforts.
