PARKERSBURG, W. Va. Downtown PKB is bringing a little art to the area.
Emma Romanoski is an art teacher at Parkersburg High School and is the creator of one of three new selfie stations in the area.
Jessie Siefert is the managing director of Parkersburg Art Center and the chair of the Arts and Culture committee of Downtown PKB and says this has been an ongoing effort.
“We put out a call for artist in the winter and so they were able to send us images of what they thought would be a good selfie station for Parkersburg,” said Siefert.
The goal of these murals is to highlight the river and train history of Parkersburg. Each one was created at ground level so you can stand and take a selfie using the hashtag WE ARE PKB.
“We hope people put it on Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag WE ARE PKB and that this starts to generate interest in the arts community here in Parkersburg," said Siefert.
Local artists Mike Penn and Erica Ash also created murals as a part of the project which is designed to bring more people to the downtown area.
Jordana Bungard is a local vinyl installer and brick wrapped these murals.
“So we really encourage everybody to come down and we are getting signage up that is creating a selfie trail so right now these are the first three on the selfie trail and we hope it continues,” said Siefert.
Siefert says this is just the start of what Downtown PKB plans to do.
