PARKESBURG, W.Va.-(WTAP) A milestone for the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley, as it wraps up its 2018-2019 fundraising campaign.

In a letter to donors mailed in the past week, Executive Director Stacy DiCicco announced the United Way announced the campaign surpassed $1 million for the first time in its history.

The organization is partnered with, and helps fund, a number of the well-known local non-profit organizations.

In particular, the local chapter of the American Red Cross has long benefited from the United Way.

"This year, in particular, we were able to include our 'Sound the Alarm' campaign," says Executive Director Sharon Kesselring, "where we have installed so many hundreds of smoke alarms in people's homes, and provided them with home fire safety education."

The Red Cross, meanwhile installed nearly 1200 smoke alarms at homes in Wood and Wood Counties this past week.
