MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - A well-known organization in Marietta is stepping up to help a school in its neighborhood.
People's Bank is collecting school supplies for teachers at Washington Elementary. The drive is a part of the Partner in Education initiative, which sees local organizations pledge to help out a school in their area.
Teachers reached out to Peoples Bank and told them around this time of year, they start to run low on extra supplies for the classroom.
"We definitely take a lot out of our paychecks and wallets for our classrooms," kindergarten teacher Emilia Jacobs said, "and I do think our community recognizes that and we have a lot of parents at the beginning of the year that send in extra supplies."
"They're raising our kids, they're teaching them," Peoples Bank branch manager Danielle Bruni said, "and we all know how hard it is to be a teacher. We consider them hometown heroes so I feel like the community really gets excited and gets behind us."
The drive runs until February 22. Donations can be dropped off at the Putnam Street branch.
